When three of my friends looked at this painting they each said, 'it looks like Tracy Island'. I hadn't thought of it, I just painted the cove but I liked the beach because it looked like a resort from 1960, the bar and lounge building are 1960s Modernist, my favourite architecture and Tracy Island is my dream Modernist house.
This public beach is close to Bonsol Hotel which was built by Antonio Xamena in 1953. From then until 1964 his land down to the beach was developed into garden villas, gardens lush with trees, pathways leading to features, staircases, exotic flowers and pools cascading down a steep hillside. He worked towards an ecological balance as he was of the opinion that every Hotel and house on the island should assimilate its own waste, the whole system achieved remarkable levels of energy efficiency and avoided any pollution of the sea. In 2001 the Bonsol received the Government Environmental Award “EMAS” for its contribution towards ecological achievement.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to various screen calibrations.
