Photographic Print. Transamerica Pyramid with sun reflection and trees in the Financial District, San Francisco.
TransAmerica Pyramid was designed by architect William Pereira and built by Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company. The building is 853 feet, 260 m tall, on completion in 1972 it was the 8th tallest building in the world. It has 48 floors topped by a 212 foot spire with a beacon of light lit for special occasions and is the second-tallest skyscraper in San Francisco. It was the tallest until 2018 when the newly constructed Salesforce Tower surpassed its height. I prefer the majestic grace and striking simplicity of the Pyramid to the gross overstated ugliness of the Salesforce Building, its finger or phallic shape overwhelming the iconic buildings such as this and Coit Tower and the whole skyline of San Francisco. I think the planners made a mistake to their beautiful city, disrespected it and they should reduce it by 10 floors.
