Photographic Print. Pink Water Lily and Koi fish in a milky Lily pond at Holetown restaurant, Barbados, Caribbean.
The genus name of the flower is from the Greek , nymphaia and the Latin nymphaea, which mean Water Lily and were inspired by the nymphs of Greek and Latin mythology; a feminine spirit that inhabited water bodies like ponds, rivers and springs. Although the Water Lily is often called a Lotus flower it is not related to the genus Lotus, the Chinese and Indian lotuses of the genus Nelumbo.
