This oil painting is based on a Milagros Mexican Tin Decoration and a Christmas card I
made for my mum and dad before I learned about Guadalupe while in San Francisco. A couple of stars are laying amongst the flowers. Milagros adorn the church walls
of Mexico, the small silver or gold votive offering, traditionally given to a saint for a wish, hope or to give thanks for a prayer
answered. I also like the idea of flowers in the desert
like in the story of the Aztec Indian boy seeing Guadalupe and Roses in the Mexican desert in 1531. He encountered a beautiful lady surrounded by a
bright ball of light and Guadalupe became known as Patron Saint of the Americas or Queen of Mexico. Statues of her in resplendent colour and gold wings are in the Basilica in Mexico, Mission Delores in San Francisco and the image is frequently seen in San Francisco and I imagine, South America.
The painting is in a 1950s/60s frame with its own hook.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to various screen calibrations.
