The still life paintings are collections of things I like, a mix of
colourful, quirky objects and seaside images, creating a strange kind of
still life. They led to the development of the idea of the beach and beach ladies series of paintings as scarf designs. They have a retro look of 1950's and 1960's fashion and seaside imagery, as I was influenced by the illustration and photography of fashion and interiors magazines of that period. As a result, they are painted in vivid colour and have an unusual, retro sense of placement in the way objects and people are placed across the space.
Portmeirion I. Filmstrip, Pillars and Chess is painted from a TV still photograph of the village in The Prisoner, two men are playing chess at the stone boat 'Amis Reunis' in front of the hotel.
