Photographic Print. Sculpture of the Stone Mermaid lounging in front of the Rotunda in Portmeirion.
The Rotunda,
built in 1954, has a flat roof viewing platform, an Aberlabe and inside, a blue grotto decorated with shells. Scott Hill in Wired wrote, "From technological nightmares of surveillance and murderous inventions like the balloon Rovers to brain transplants....torture, The Prisoner challenged viewer expectation and experience with every episode. The Prisoner was an allegory of the individual, aiming to find peace and freedom in a dystopia masquerading as a utopia."
McGoohan once explained, "I must have individuality in everything I do. It's not easy to find it always,"... "I question everything. I don't accept anything on face value." '
